About
Chelsea Parkinson (b. 2003) is an emerging artist based in Melbourne, originally from the Adelaide Hills. Currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) at RMIT University, she works across a wide variety of mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and mixed-media practices.
Creativity has always been central to her life, beginning with cake decorating, sewing, and craft-making before evolving into a sustained visual arts practice. Her work explores themes of vulnerability and the delicate nature of living — investigating the fragile yet resilient ways people, animals, and the natural world navigate existence.
Chelsea’s subjects shift fluidly between realism and abstraction, encompassing intimate pet portraits, atmospheric charcoal drawings, bold abstract compositions, and tactile sculptural forms. Across these modes, she aims to create spaces of empathy and reflection, encouraging viewers to consider the complexity of emotional and physical experience.
As an artist early in her career, Chelsea embraces experimentation, using diverse processes and materials to find new ways of expressing tenderness, precarity, and connection in everyday life.
